Projects with Inlays -- Sapele Silverware Box by Matt Furjanic

Pommele Sapele in the center surrounded by 1/2" wide cherry/maple/ebony inlay banding (#63). The octagonal inlays were hand-cut from cherry and maple veneer to facilitate corner matching of the banding. The central fan is a hand-made .045" thick, maple (hot-sand-shaded) and black dyed tupelo, with a .040" wide holly perimiter. The outer edge is ribbon-striped, quartersawn sapele veneer, set at 45 degree angles and surrounded by a 1/8" ebony string. The top of this box is all veneer with a 1/2" baltic birch plywood core; the edges of the plywood framed with solid sapele.
