Wine box with wooden ribbon, and inlays.
If you want to make your own box, The inlay parts are available. You will have to make your own basic box, and cut the ribbons from the block (loaf) with a scroll saw. Six inlay bandings will be provided. Four for the sides, one for the top, and an extra one for good measure. Also two 10" lengths of 1/8" holly stringing included, and a 8-3/4" "loaf" from which to cut the ribbon parts.
This project is for the advanced woodworker. You will have to make the basic box (I used 1/4" thick stock for the one pictured). The four vertical pieces for the box are approximately 13" tall and 4-1/2" wide, and 1/4" thick. These are mitered on the table saw and assembled without the bottom or the top. These are added after the four mitered pieces are glued-up. The glue joint where the top meets the sides is hidden with a piece of 1/8" holly stringing. Once the box is assembled, the stringing is added, then inlaybanding on the top and sides are added. The top is then carefully cut off the box. This was accomplished on a band saw, but can be done on a table saw as well.
Now comes the tedious part: making the 5 ribbon parts. Look at the pictures, and it will be apparent how these are cut from the loaf provided. The ribbon parts are finished separately from the box, then glued, using epoxy, to the top afterwards. If you have any questions, call Matt at 704-221-2147.

Notice the inserted thin pieces of walnut that will keep the top aligned perfectly, and provide a near, air-tight fit of the top, to the bottom of the box.
